Our Minister to London, Lord Li, informed the
Board yesterday of the telegram which Y.E. had received
from the Acting Governor of Hongkong reporting that
police had been detailed to search for Sun Yat sen
during the past four wecks, that he was not in Hongkong
but would on arrival be promptly deported.
The Board have a grateful sense of the importance
which Y.E. attaches to friendly relations and to the
safeguarding of the public peace. We have just received
a further telegram from the Canton Viceroy reporting
that Sun is not just now in Hongkong but that Teng Tzu
yù, his right hand man, is still at the Lu-an-hsiang
hotel there. On the 2nd instant a military guard-station
at Chi-nü-hu-hsủ, thrity li from Hui-cheu Fu, was
attacked, and the guilty parties who were captured at
various times admitted one and all without any conceal-
ment that the affair had been planned in the Lu-an-hsiany
hotel. At the suggestion of Teng Tau yu and Yu Shao-
ching, Chu ya-chu was appointed their leader and each
man was given the sum of five hundred dollars to take
with him to Hui Chou te precure man to raise a distur-
bance. Copy of the evidence taken before the Hui Chou
Prefect was supplied to H.B.M. Consul-General, who
